Showing the texture on my cold wax paintings.

This spring and summer have been pretty difficult family wise. Both our Moms passed away this year. The events surrounding their passing and closing out their estates have created havoc with my drive to paint. I look forward to getting back in the studio and continuing this series of landscapes.

I took a couple of better pictures of one of my cold wax and oil abstract landscapes. I wanted to be able to show the texture better than a full shot of the painting allows.  Here is the full painting.

I Did Win!

My last entry was called Winning! and I must have been sending out more good vibes than I thought! Because the painting, "The Balm of Rain," was accepted at the Prairie Lakes Regional Show and the juror awarded it 4th place. I will receive a cash prize also.  Cool. The opening is Friday night, October 7, but I have had the opportunity to see the painting hung at the show. I got a prime spot in the gallery too. Winning! This image is a crop of the larger painting. I love the textures I can get with the cold wax. I added some ground marble to the paint to make it thicker and able to make sweet textures.

Pandemic Exhibit

Pandemic Exhibit May 16 and the shelter in place regulations resulting from the pandemic of Covid Virus are beginning to be lifted. On Monday morning Tandem Bagels in Mankato will reopen. They have cleaned the store and marked the floor and ask everyone in the store to wear a mask. I took 10 of my cold wax paintings to show on their wall. After getting them all together and reevaluating them, I decided that the paintings needed new identities. So these paintings all have new titles that reflect this pandemic time. Getting Ready

I was selected to have a show at the Waseca Mn. Art Center this late winter season. So after a month of painting in Florida, we are finishing off putting the paintings done in my little studio on the lanai * on cradled panels. And I am polishing up the paintings that I painted on the cradled panels that I brought to Florida. That final polish with plain wax gives the paintings a soft glow that really accents the textures in the paintings. The show should be an engaging one, with quite a few smaller paintings and several larger paintings that are a new experience for me. Thanks to a generous grant from Prairie Lakes Regional Art Council and the Clean Air Land and Water Legacy grant, I was able to experiment with large panels, 36 by 48 inches. I mostly paint much smaller and the challenge of the larger panels was exhilarating.
